We've explored tools for differentiation and rigor. We've also examined tools for collaboration and communication. During our first learning task, we examined UDL, SAMR, and personalized learning. All of these ideas are developed when we know our learners.
What kind of learner are you?
Research tells us that knowing our learners is critical to meeting their needs. It also tells us that we tend to teach to the learning styles that we prefer. So, how do we get to know students? How can we manage this information or other information (including parent info, formative assessment data, data collection for investigations, etc)? Online surveys can give us some information about our learning styles. Of course, we may also want to find out other things about our students. Surveys can help.
So... What kind of learning are you?

Tools for Surveys and Other Data Collection
So... an easy way to collect data is through survey tools like Survey Monkey. Another way to do so is to utilize Google tools (apps). They're free.... and they're pretty powerful.
First, you need to have a gmail account. They're free. Just go to Google and sign-up for one.
Then you need to access your Google Drive. Google drive acts like a flashdrive/thumbdirive in the cloud. You can save files there and share them with others.
Once in your drive, you can create files for collaboration.
The files are created with Google tools including Google docs, sheets, forms, presentations, and Google Draw. These tools are collaborative. This means that each of us can login and edit a file at the same time without needing to make any new files, save files, etc.
In this learning task, we're going to create a Google form. A Google form is a survey tool that dumps responses into a spreadsheet. It's a great way to get to know students, collect info from parents, or even create quizzes. We will only work with Google Forms but I highly encourage you to explore the other Google tools. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube. Great way to have students complete things collaboratively and you never have to worry about it being lost.
Here's a google form example from me. Watch this for more information about how you can create a Google Form. Here is the practice form you just watched me create.
